Dear Parents/Guardians,

     Greetings and Happy February!  As we begin the second half of our school year (already!)  I would like to thank all who have made this year so enjoyable so far.  Working together, students, parents, and teachers, we can accomplish anything!  At this time we are proud to announce our new mission statement:  OLC School: Knowing Christ, Teaching Christ, Becoming Christ”.  (I just ordered a bumper sticker with our new mission statement on it for every OLC student!)

     There are plenty of important happenings for the month of February.    Some of the latest OLC school news includes the following:

·          This month we celebrate Catholic Schools Week.   January 31st Sunday: “Catholic Schools: “Dividends for Life” 11:00 School Mass ~ All students, parents, and staff are encouraged to attend this Liturgy.  New this year: Open House at OLC School 12:00 – 1:00 We invite everyone to come visit our wonderful school!  If anyone can bring treats to school, it would be much appreciated!  Smartboards displayed in Kindergarten, 3rd Grade and 6th Grade classrooms. OLC School Family Banner exhibited in Church. February 1st h Monday: “Catholic Schools: “Dividends for Life” Volunteer Appreciation Day ~ We thank all our volunteers for their great service!!!  Grades 2 – 3 students will sing for seniors. February 2nd Tuesday: “Catholic Schools: “Dividends for Life” Career Day ~ Volunteers may come to school to speak about their professions and share their experiences. (See attached sign-up sheet.)  Robert R. Behn Project Manager for the construction development is scheduled to speak to our children. February 3rd Wednesday: “Catholic Schools: “Dividends for Life” Student Appreciation Day ~ We honor our marvelous students! ~ Help Haiti Day. Option: gym uniforms may be worn or clothes with Haitian colors.  (Red/Blue)  Students are asked to bring in much needed toiletries to be sent to Haiti.  ~ Students can pay $1.00 for pizza (Originals) Profits will go to Haiti relief.  Orders will be taken in advance. ~ Principals for the Day activities ~ Free pretzel for every student. ~ OLC Italian Language class begins. February 4th Thursday: “Catholic Schools: “Dividends For Life” Faculty Appreciation Day We honor our tremendous teachers!  “Teacher Swap” in the afternoon.  (Teachers will teach different grades.) ~ Lunch provided by OLC Home & School. ~ Fifth Annual OLC Academic Expo 7:00 in Church hall.  (Doors open at 6:00 for student displays.) ~ Carnival of Prizes winners announced.  February 5th Friday: “Catholic Schools: “Dividends For Life” Administration Appreciation Day ~ We appreciate all that our pastor, Rev. Dennis J. Carbonaro does for us!!!  School Mass at 9:00.  12:00 Dismissal.

·          Congratulations to our 2010 Principals for the day!

·          We just installed two more Smartboards with projectors!  We still have three more to go.  If anyone knows qualified persons who can install this type of technology, please contact the school office. TY!

·          OLC Italian Language Course (Grades 3 – 8) Our Lady of Consolation Catholic School is very pleased to announce we are offering an Italian Language Course.    Instruction will be basic Italian.

·          Congratulations to Angela Homan and Brittney M. Thompson for winning academic scholarships to Saint Hubert’s High school.  Saint Hubert’s President, Sister Mary Smith IHM, praised them for their fine academic performances.  She also applauded our teachers for helping to make this possible.

·          Hats off to Joseph J. Dembik.  He won a four year academic scholarship to Roman Catholic High school!

·          First Penance 3rd Grade was scheduled Tuesday, March 23rd moved to Monday, March 22nd.   Confessions scheduled for Thursday, March 11th moved to Thursday, March 18th

·          First Annual OLC “A Taste of Philly”Many thanks to all who attended our first annual OLC “A Taste of Philly”.   We had good companions, great food, cool music, and lively spirits!  Special thanks to the OLC Home and School Board, volunteers, and vendors who made the evening possible. Thanks also to all those who offered technical assistance for the Eagle’s game!  (We couldn’t do anything about the final score!)  We plan to offer this event again next year later in January.

 

Finally, this month is special because we celebrate two important days. The first on the 14th is Saint Valentine’s Day, a beautiful day to remember all the loved ones in our lives.  The second is Ash Wednesday on the 17th.  This day begins the Lenten Season and reminds us that a greater life awaits us with our Lord in Heaven.  May the messages of these days bring you and your families  joy and peace!
