Dear Parent/Guardians,
Greetings and Happy May! As the school year is fast coming to a close I want to thank you for all that you do to make our school so special!!!
Some of the latest news includes:
• On April 8th we celebrated the Bicentennial Party for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. On that afternoon we joined other Philadelphia Catholic schools by serving ice cream cake to our students and staff!
• Hats off to Mrs. Sharp and our 8th grade for a wonderful Living Stations!
• Congratulations to Eleanor Donatelli and Dominic Morrell, our two 8th Grade Josephine C. Connelly Award winners!
• Thanks to all for a great Talent Show this year!
• A big thank you to all those who attended or gave their time helping out at our Third Family Fun Night!
• Date change: The 2008 OLC May Procession will be on Tuesday, May 13th at 7:00 PM.
• Congratulations to Jake Galzarano who just won the 2007/2008 OLC Spelling Bee Contest! He went on to the preliminary round held at Saint Anselm, and finished sixth. Nice job!
• All our students thoroughly enjoyed the Chinese Dance Assembly. It was both instructive and entertaining. (Mr. DeMarco, our 6th grade teacher, showed off his outstanding Chinese dancing skills!)
• We had an excellent second trimester honors assembly. It is an OLC tradition for the principal to read a few stories to the children at the conclusion of the assembly. I have to say they were a wonderful audience and I had a super time!
• SIP Update: All OLC SIP (Shelter in Place) food and water supplies were restocked last week.
• Progress reports were issued for the Third Trimester on Thursday, 4/24.
• Grades 4 -8 went on a Philadelphia Constitution Freedom Walk recently. The class trip was educational and very enjoyable. We visited the Liberty Bell, Benjamin Franklin’s grave at Christ’s Church, Franklin’s Court, the First Bank of the United States, the Quaker Meeting House, Independence Hall, and the Constitution Center. (This trip was free for our children through a grant provided by the Connelly Foundation.) Our guide told me we should be very
proud of our students. He stated they “asked intelligent questions and they were a joy to be with”. I agree!
• Reminder: Tuesday, May 27th is an added school holiday.
• Student Designed OLC Calendar Cover For 2008/2009 School Year. The winning entry will be announced and will be used as the front cover of next year’s OLC School Calendar.
• Scholastic OLC Book Fair Coming in May (BOGO ~ Buy One get One Free!) (A good time to stock up on books for summer reading!)
• Third Annual OLC Academic Expo May 21st. We will have our final Home and School Meeting for the year. The meeting will be the third annual OLC Academic Expo. The Academic Expo is designed to showcase the children’s curriculum skills. On that night each grade will give a five-minute presentation based on a topic from the curriculum. On that evening we will also unveil our video, “Our Lady of Consolation School 2007/2008 – “A School Family”. (This video will be available at a later date for purchase). Two showings will take place, one at 6:00 and the second at the conclusion of the evening.
• 2008/2009 Pre-K – 8th Grade Registration Reminder: Be sure to register now (classes are closing) for the 2008/2009 School Year. Thank you! (Last year we had a waiting list for several grades.)

This month we honor all mothers. Thank you for the unbelievable job you do everyday!
Happy Mother’s Day!

Yours in Christ!

Mr. Stephen D. DiCicco
Principal
