Preamble
This Association is a group of parents/guardians, teachers and administrators
dedicated to addressing the social and educational needs of students and
parents/guardians of Our Lady of Consolation Catholic School which is an
integral part of the parish and as such operates in accord with its mission.
This Association will provide a cooperative support system and encourage the
spiritual development of a thriving Catholic community.

Community involvement will foster the spiritual and educational growth of our
children. Part of that process will mean social change. Social change is when an
action affects a group of individuals who have shared values. So, please make

Constitution and By-Laws
PREAMBLE
This Association is a group of parents/guardians, teachers and administrators
dedicated to addressing the social and educational needs of students and
parents/guardians of Our Lady of Consolation Catholic School which is an
integral part of the parish and as such operates in accord with its mission.
This Association will provide a cooperative support system and encourage the
spiritual development of a thriving Catholic community.
ARTICLE 1
The Official name of this Association shall be: Our Lady of Consolation Catholic
Home and School Association.
ARTICLE 2
The Pastor of Our Lady of Consolation Parish shall administer Archdiocesan
guidelines in reference to the School and the Home and School Association.
ARTICLE 3- PURPOSE
1. To acknowledge the role of the parents as the first and
foremost educators of their children and to work in cooperation with the school
administration to ensure quality education and formation of the children.
2. To function as an advisory and support group to Our Lady
of Consolation Catholic School.
3. To foster a caring Catholic community of
parents/guardians of OLC students.
4. To promote parental involvement in all school programs.
5. To build a better understanding and create a common
interest between parents and faculty through open communication.
6. To use the talents of the parish community for quality
education in the school.
7. To establish a positive spiritual and emotional
environment for the entire school community.
ARTICLE 4 - MEETINGS
The Association will hold at least four regular meetings during the course of
the school year. Special meetings may be called by the Executive Committee.
ARTICLE 5 - MEMBERSHIP
All parents/guardians of students in OLC and faculty and school administration
are eligible for membership in the Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Home and
School Association. Active eligibility consists of being current in the payment
of dues.
ARTICLE 6 - EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
The Executive Committee shall consist of the Officers of the Association,
Chairpersons of any standing committees, a Faculty Representative, the
Principal, and the Pastor. The Executive Committee shall have responsibility for
the Association's affairs.
ARTICLE 7 – OTHER COMMITTEES
Chairpersons of Other Committees shall be nominated by the President and
appointed with the approval of a majority of the Officers, Principal, and
Faculty Representative on the
Executive Committee. This recommendation will be
presented to the Pastor for his consideration.
ARTICLE 8 - OFFICERS
Number and Titles: The officers of the Association shall be President,
Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Ways & Means, Membership, and Executive
Assistants.
ARTICLE 9 - NOMINATING PROCEDURE
Nominations for cabinet positions may be made by an individual who wishes to run
for an office position. All nominations will be notified by an Executive Board
member to confirm the nomination.
ARTICLE 10 – ELECTION PROCEDURE
If there is more than one candidate for an office, ballots will be distributed
to members of the Home & School Association. The ballots will be collected and
counted by the Executive Board members.
ARTICLE 11 – TERMS OF OFFICE
The officers shall serve for two years.
ARTICLE 12 – INSTALLATION OF OFFICERS
Newly elected officers will be installed during the first general Home & School
meeting and assume their duties to coincide with the beginning of the school
year.
ARTICLE 13 – DUTIES
A. PRESIDENT
The President shall preside at all meetings of the Association and of its
Executive Committee, and performs such other duties as are incumbent on this
office. The President shall represent the Association at appropriate Parish and
Archdiocesan functions.
B. VICE PRESIDENT
The Vice President shall perform such duties as assigned to this office and, in
the absence of the President, perform all the duties of the President.
C. SECRETARY
The Secretary shall keep and distribute the minutes of all Association and
Executive Committee meetings (no later than one week following a meeting),
notify members of their appointment to committees, collect agenda topics, and
perform such duties as are incumbent on this office.
D. TREASURER
The Treasurer shall receive all monies of the Association, disburse funds as
authorized, keep financial accounts, and produce financial reports to the Pastor
on a quarterly basis, as the Executive Committee may require.
E. WAYS AND MEANS
1. Shall organize volunteers to help with yearly events.
2. Shall perform tasks at yearly events by the Home &
School Association.
3. Shall foster strong parent/guardian involvement in
school activities.
F. MEMBERSHIP
1. Shall prepare and keep records of all members.
2. Shall perform various tasks at yearly events sponsored
by the Home & School Association.
G. EXECUTIVE ASSISTANTS
1. Shall interact with other officers, as to be familiar
with the normal functions of the executive branch.
2. Shall be ready to assume an executive officers position
if needed or requested.
3. Shall perform various tasks at yearly events sponsored
by the Home & School Association.
ARTICLE 14 – VACATED OFFICER POSITION
A. In the event the President resigns before the completion of a term, the Vice
President shall become the President of the Association.
B. In the event of any other member resigns before the completion of a term, or
the Vice President assumes the Office of President, the remaining Officers and
the Pastor will appoint an Association Member to complete the term of the
vacated position.
ARTICLE 15 - MONIES
The Home & School Association shall follow all accounting principles of the
parish.
ARTICLE 16 - AMENDMENT OF BYLAWS
These by-laws may be amended at a special meeting called for that purpose. The
proposed amendment must be submitted in writing at a regular meeting at least
one month prior to the special meeting and so announced to the entire
membership. A two-thirds vote of the members present at the special meeting is
required for amendment.
* Since these are new by-laws, they are provisionally in use for one year,
(2008-2009); after which the Pastor and Executive committee will execute a
thorough review.
